The BA Film and Media with Foundation Year programme combines the academic study of film, television and digital media with the chance to develop one’s creative skills in a range of practice-oriented modules. It will give students a solid grounding in core knowledge and key skills that will equip them to work in the creative and cultural industries. On this programme, students will learn how technology, business and human creativity have forged the contemporary media world in which we live. Students will be challenged to engage critically and imaginatively with a wide variety of forms and styles from around the world and from different historical periods. Students will also have the chance to study screenwriting, cinematography, sound design and digital editing, from both practical and critical points of view. Before proceeding to the main degree, students will spend their Foundation Year preparing themselves for a degree in the arts by improving their study and research skills and gaining arts-related knowledge and understanding. Students will also have the opportunity to take a language module as part of the Foundation Year. Upon successful completion of the Foundation Year, students can automatically progress on to the three-year, full-time evening study BA Film and Media. Graduates can pursue careers in film and television companies, museums and galleries, arts administration and teaching. This degree may also be useful in becoming a programme researcher (broadcasting/film/video), museum/gallery curator, arts administrator or higher education lecturer.
