Birkbeck's BSc Environment and Sustainability gives students a deep understanding of what drives environmental change and how to manage natural systems under unprecedented pressure. Learning from internationally-recognised researchers, students will discover the core scientific principles they need to understand key environmental challenges, including climate change, pollution and waste management, biodiversity loss and biosecurity. Through this programme, students will be familiarized with fundamental dimensions of environment and sustainability, including adaptation, mitigation and corporate responsibility. Students will learn to collect, analyse and interpret environmental data to improve management practices. Core modules will cover the ecological and social dimensions of environment and sustainability. Students can tailor their degree by choosing option modules on themes like the global food crisis, nature conservation, hydrology, storms, flooding and sea-level rise, cities and urban inequalities, and geographic information science (GIS).
