Birkbeck’s BSc Economics with Foundation Year is designed to provide students with a core of rigorous, technically demanding, yet applications-oriented, skills in economics. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills needed to equip them for professions requiring economic literacy and the analytical tools expected from a top economics degree. This is a rigorous course that combines an open admissions policy with high standards. Where there are gaps in the previous education students will fill those gaps, but students will also achieve the same standard of training in the core skills of economics as in any other economics degree. Upon successful completion of the Foundation Year, students will automatically progress onto the three-year, full-time evening study BSc Economics or onto one of the other Economics programmes: BSc Economics and Business, BSc Economics and Social Policy, BSc Finance with Accounting or BSc Financial Economics. Students need only complete one application and they enrol onto one programme. Graduates can go on to develop careers in banking and finance, the public sector and industry, both in the UK and overseas, as well as continuing on to postgraduate studies.
