The Second Cycle Degree Course (Laurea Magistrale) in Classical and Modern Philology and Literature, which constitutes the natural specialisation after the undergraduate programme in Humanities, has run since the academic year 2011/2012. Courses are similar to those offered in the undergraduate programme (L-LIN / 01 General Linguistics, L-FIL-LET / 10/11 Italian Literature and Contemporary Italian Literature, L-FIL-LET / 04 Latin Literature - LM, L-ANT / 03 Roman History - LM o Didactics of Ancient History, L-FIL- LET / 06 Ancient Christian Literature, M-STO / 01/02/02 04 Civilizations and Cultures of the Middle Ages, History of the Age of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation, History of Contemporary Europe, M-GGR / 01 Cultural Geography). However, the analysis of these subjects is more detailed and thorough. Other courses, instead, are new (L-FIL-LET / 08 Medieval and Humanistic Latin Literature, L-ANT / 05 History of the Classical Tradition, M-STO / 08 Humanistic and Archival Informatics, M-STO / 09 Paleography).
In the second year, in particular, students are requested to choose between Classics (LM 15) and Modern Humanities (LM 14). Depending on their choice, students will acquire specific skills and peculiar theoretical and methodological instruments (30 credits). The other 30 credits are divided among optional subjects, a seventy-five-hour internship, and the final exam.
As far as Classics (LM 15) is concerned, the aim of the programme is to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of Greek and Latin Languages and Literatures (L-FIL-LET / 02/04). In addition, the programme offers a number of courses related to Philology, Didactics, Grammar, History of Language and Informatics; Greek History and Historiography (L-ANT / 02). Students are given the opportunity to take 12 credits in optional subjects, among which Papyrology and Classical Philology (L-ANT / 05 and L-FIL-LET / 05), Classical Urban Planning (LM), and Ancient Topography (L -ant / 07/09). Among the optional subjects, students are also offered the possibility to choose archaeological courses (L-ANT / 06 Etruscology, L-ANT / 10 Methodology and Technique of the Archaeological Survey on the Ground, ICAR / 06 Multimedia Technologies for Archaeology), and Linguistics (L-OR / 18 Sanskrit).
The programme in Modern Humanities, instead, aims to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of History and Didactics of Italian Language (L-FIL-LET / 12, L-LIN / 02 ), Italian and Romance Philology and of Provençal Literature (L-FIL-LET / 09/13), Italian Literary Criticism and Modern Comparative Literatures (L-FIL-LET / 10/14), History (M- STO / 01/02/04), and Musicology (L-ART / 07). Students can also opt for the course of Didactics of Italian as a Second Language (L-FIL-LET/12).
The Second Cycle Degree Course (Laurea Magistrale) in Classical and Modern Philology and Literature helps students develop learning and critical skills in activities, where students are invited to participate. The acquisition of the aforementioned skills is also useful for the final exam (writing and defence of a dissertation.
