The University offers a bachelor of science (B.S.) in architectural engineering technology that prepares students with the technical and managerial skills necessary to enter careers in the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance aspects of the built environment. The Architectural Engineering Technology Program provides an architectural engineering technology education that combines an understanding of the philosophy of building design with an applied technical knowledge of construction systems and materials acquired in a technical-oriented studio structure. Course content includes technical requirements, management electives, mathematics, and science. In addition, students complete the University's Foundational Studies Program, which provides critical thinking, leadership, and interpersonal and communication skills needed for professional management-level positions. Students explore a variety of graphic tools and techniques including freehand drawing, computer-aided drafting, physical models, virtual computer models, Build Information Modeling (BIM), and computer imaging. Students are exposed to a wide range of software programs, graphic communication techniques, and problem-solving skills. Students gain real-world experience through participation in internships, cooperative practice programs, and other community and industry engagements. Courses in the major are taught by full-time professors who have actual work experience in the field. The department offers small class sizes, which allow for individual attention. Program facilities include studios equipped with individual computer work stations outfitted with leading industry software. Careers Graduates are qualified for professional positions in the architectural profession working as technologists and managers for architects, engineers, city planners, interior designers, construction managers, and facilities managers. They are prepared to analyze and design systems, specify project methods and materials, perform cost estimates and analyses, and manage technical activities in support of architectural projects. The need for architectural engineering technologist is increasing as the need for sustainable construction increases.
