This degree program prepares students for careers in air traffic control, airport or airline operations, or supervision in the aviation industry. Graduates obtain positions in airport and air carrier operations, airport service industries, aircraft sales, passenger services, and aircraft operations. The program includes a core of basic aviation courses—plus coursework in aviation management. In addition, students complete one ISU minor. Flight training is not required. However, to gain a better understanding of the aviation industry, students are encouraged to obtain at least a private pilot certificate with instrument rating. The University's Aviation Technology Department is internationally recognized for the excellence of its facilities, faculty, and graduates. Relatively small class sizes enable students to work one-on-one with highly talented and dedicated faculty members who are professional leaders in the aviation industry. Multi-million dollar facilities include fully-simulated laboratories for flight practice, computer lab for aviation technology students, and well-equipped classrooms. Credit is awarded for internships/co-ops with aviation companies and airports. A number of activities and organizations are available that enable students to interact with other students and professionals, including Alpha Eta Rho, the American Association of Airport Executives, and Women in Aviation International. Other opportunities include the University's Honors Program and study abroad opportunities—which range from summer programs to a single semester or a full academic year in over 56 countries. Careers Our graduates obtain professional positions in areas such as air traffic control, airport and airline operations, and supervision in the aviation industry. Employment is generally found at airports and commuter airlines in companies having flight departments, the federal government, the military services, flight simulator companies, aircraft manufacturers, state departments of aviation, and airport fixed base operators. Graduates of our program are employed with all the major U.S. Air Carriers.
