The University offers a bachelor of science (B.S.) in management. The Management Program provides the foundation needed to succeed in management careers. Coursework in the major includes a comprehensive base of liberal studies and business courses—plus courses that provide fundamental skills in the following areas: Business ethics Corporate social responsibility Leadership Organizational design People management Strategic management Additional opportunities are available to study small business management and international business management. Because management is a part of many career paths, the management major combines well with (and compliments) other majors and minors offered by the University. One of the strengths of the Management Program is that it provides each student with actual management experience. In addition to realistic projects associated with coursework, students gain practical experience by completing a cooperative practicum and an internship. Recently, students have had the opportunity to take a summer session course that includes a trip to Comenius University in Bratislava (Slovak Republic) to attend sessions on business and economic development with Comenius University students. Other courses include travel to Taiwan and mainland China. Future opportunities to partner with international schools are being planned. Other innovations include a topics course in corporate governance and incorporating SAP software into the human resource management course. In addition, through programs such as Sycamore Business Advisors, students are involved with community organizations such as United Way and the Mental Health Association. Careers Our graduates are qualified for careers in manufacturing, retail, government, technology, international business, and not-for-profit services. Many are placed in management trainee programs. Others begin their careers in non-managerial professional positions and then are promoted to management. Regardless of the industry, experienced executives often state that the most important skill is the ability to effectively manage people and resources. Consequently, skilled managers are in high demand—and management professionals with the right experience and credentials are some of the highest paid people in the world. Examples of management positions include: Administrative services manager Chief executive officer (CEO) and chief operating officer (COO) Computer information systems manager Construction manager Engineering and natural science manager General Manager Hotel and lodging manager Human resources/labor relations manager Medical and health services manager Property and real estate manager Purchasing manager
