A major and a minor in Spanish with an emphasis in literature or culture are offered through a comprehensive array of courses taken at Saint Francis University and its program at Cuernevaca, Mexico. St. Francis students also take advantage of many study abroad trips, including exotic locations like Mexico, Dominican Republic, Spain, and Costa Rica, where they are able to earn credits, get internships, immerse themselves in the culture, and have fun! The study of Spanish can also be incorporated into a program leading to elementary and secondary teaching certification. For teaching certification, consult the program requirements under Education. Other employment opportunities are provided upon request by the departmental advisors and the Office of Career Counseling and Placement. Major Requirements: ACCT 101 - Financial Accounting ACCT 102 - Managerial Accounting ECON 102 - Principles of Economics II ECON 402 - International Trade and Finance FIN 202 - Finance FIN 324 - Advanced Financial Management MGMT 101 - Principles of Management MGMT 206 - International Management MKTG 302 - Marketing MKTG 403 - International Marketing MATH 111 - Finite Mathematics STAT 301 - Quantitative Business Analysis I BLAW 301 - Legal Environment of Business CPSC 101 - Introduction to Computer Systems LANG 103 - Language and Culture or another foreign language at any level And: Fifteen credits above the 202 level in Spanish, to include SPAN 301, 312, and courses in literature, culture, and business taken abroad. Electives: Six credits of business or modern language electives (beyond core requirements) to include Independent Study, Internship Abroad, Domestic Internship with an international business emphasis, or Study Abroad. Free Electives: Suggested areas: Accounting, Computer Science, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, Mathematics, Political Science, Psychology or Spanish. Note(s): Advanced placement, particularly in a language or in mathematics, may increase the number of free electives; secondary certification to teach Spanish may be possible to obtain by careful use of free electives (see the Education Department chair for courses required).
