The Doctorate in Architecture at Universidade Lusófona—the largest private university in Portugal—is an academic and scientific program of excellence, with campuses in Lisbon and Porto, developed in close collaboration between the University Center of Lisbon (UL-CUL) and the University Center of Porto (UL-CUP). Created in 2014, the program has established itself as a platform for advanced research and critical thinking on contemporary architecture. Over the last decade, it has consistently evolved towards scientific excellence and internationalization. Lasting six semesters, it is organized around two academic semesters, followed by four semesters dedicated to individual research. During the first two semesters, students participate in an annual International Seminar, held in partnership with the Manchester School of Architecture (United Kingdom) and the Ljubljana Faculty of Architecture (Slovenia), promoting an environment of global academic dialogue. It is taught in Portuguese and English, reflecting its international and inclusive vocation, and is aimed at architects and researchers interested in critically deepening their knowledge of the discipline, in conjunction with the research centers of the Lusófona University. The research work is carried out in close collaboration with professors from the CIAUD-Lusófona-ISMAT Research Center at CIAUD-FAUL, strengthening ties with nationally and internationally recognized research units. The program is developing a pilot pedagogical project for internationalization, which includes doctoral seminars with leading academics and research protocols with various European universities. As part of this consolidation and opening up effort, eight doctoral scholarships are available (four UL-CUL + four UL-CUP), which exempt students from paying tuition fees for up to 12 semesters, as well as the thesis submission fee.
