The University of Anbar , Iraq, was established in 1987 and started with two colleges: the College for the Education of Women and the College of Education for Humanities. The university, which is located in Ramadi City in the Governorate of of Al-Anbar, has now flourished into 18 colleges with 61 departments and 6 scientific research centres.

Ramadi enjoys a warm, riverside climate and sits on one of the main roads through Iraq. Sights in the city include one of the largest mosques in the area, fully restored in 2017.

The university’s mission is to have a pioneering position in higher education and scientific research and develop academic programmes for achieving sustainable development. They aim to provide a distinct quality of education, teaching and scientific research by adopting strategies of analytical and critical thinking.

University information

Students wishing to study at the University of Anbar can apply through the online portal on the university website. Full programme and study options are available on the website and students should make sure their chosen academic field is being offered in their admission year before applying. 

Students applying for a scholarship to assist in funding for their studies at the University of Anbar in Ramadi must hold an Iraqi secondary certificate or equivalent. Importantly, most applicants must have studied at least a secondary education level no longer than three years before applying to the University of Anbar. There are specific and occasional exceptions to this rule. Students can find a full list of application requirements on the university website.
