Applied Geology Section was established on academic year (2008-2009). The first batch of (40) male and female students were admitted. The section aims at preparing specialized staff in the different fields of geology including Mineral, Engineering, Oil, gas and Environment Investigation in addition to studying the earth forms for different uses. The section has paid much attention for having a new syllabus which suits the mineral geological status of Al-Anbar province.
A seismic monitoring station affiliated with the University Seismic Observing Network was established, which was stationed by the Seismological Laboratory at the University of Basra in 2017 and is responsible for Osama Jassim Mohammed.
Post graduate study for MSc. has established for first time in the department during 2019-2020 in General geology.

- Adopting the admission requirements for students in accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (central admission).
- Approval of the personal interview for the students by the Dean of the College and the assistants.
- To be fit for a medical examination.
- Student average in high school.
- The absorptive capacity of the college.
