The program aims to prepare, in various subfields of history (Georgian history, Middle Eastern history, modern and contemporary history of European and American countries - depending on the doctoral student's choice), a highly qualified specialist who is able to:
conduct independent scientific research, thereby contributing to the creation and introduction of new knowledge in the field of history, the development of the field of history in Georgia, its internationalization and integration into international academic circles; prepare and teach individual disciplines of the field in higher education institutions; be competitive in the labor market. Employment scope: A Doctor of History can be employed as a researcher and/or teacher in scientific-research and higher educational institutions, state and non-governmental structures of the relevant profile, organizations, foundations, libraries, archives, museums, the Institute of History and Ethnology, the National Agency for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia, the National Center for Manuscripts, in the field of tourism and mass media, and in publishing houses.

Admission Requirements

The doctoral program will admit candidates with a master's degree or equivalent academic degree in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, interdisciplinary sciences or law, who can provide a document confirming their English language proficiency at least at the B2 (Intermediate) level (an international certificate confirming knowledge of the English language; or a certificate issued by the National Center for Assessment and Examinations - Certus; or a diploma/supplement or certificate confirming completion of an English-language bachelor's or master's program; or an internal university exam in English) and a research concept and will undergo an interview in the specialty (the interview topic is posted on the website). When making a decision, the Council of the School of Arts and Humanities takes into account: a) the candidate's research skills; b) the relevance of the concept and topic to the scientific topics and human and material resources of the school.
