Our PhD program in Industrial Hygiene will train you to conduct and supervise research or manage advanced applied programs in academic, governmental, or private settings. The overall goal of the program is to contribute to occupational disease and injury prevention in industrial, environmental, and agricultural sectors. The mission of the PhD program is to train individuals to conduct and supervise research or to manage advanced applied programs in academic, governmental, or private industrial hygiene settings. This mission is supported by Program Educational Objectives, which state that, within a few years of graduation, PhD graduates are expected to: Attain the Program Educational Objectives set forth for MS graduates Become leaders in research, policy, and/or education Become leaders in mentoring the next generation of industrial hygienists through involvement in teaching professional development courses and/or coursework at academic institutions These objectives are supported by Student Outcomes, which state that at the time of graduation PhD students are expected to be able to: Attain the Student Outcomes set forth for MS students Apply the biostatistical principles associated with the design and analysis of exposure and health-effect studies Demonstrate in writing and oral presentation an advanced knowledge of an occupational or environmental health topic Analyze research literature in industrial hygiene to identify gaps in knowledge Design and perform an independent research project using ethical principles Synthesize and integrate research results to industrial hygiene policy and interventions Communicate research findings effectively to various audiences in writing and through oral presentation Demonstrate depth of knowledge in a specific area of research pertinent to the field of industrial hygiene
