The Master of Computer Science (MCS) is a nonresearch, course-based program for students who wish to enhance their careers with advanced knowledge of computer science. The Master of Science is granted only to students working toward the PhD. The MCS requires a minimum of 32 s.h. of graduate credit, including at least 24 s.h. earned at The University of Iowa. Our MCS program is a flexible, coursework-only program that enables students to deepen their CS knowledge and prepares them for challenging industry careers. Our research-intensive PhD program enables students to join our world-class faculty in research from their very first semester. The cornerstone of our graduate program is a rigorous and competitive selection process, based on undergraduate performance, standardized test scores, and letters of recommendation. Candidates are advised to apply directly to the program best suited to their eventual academic goal.
