Vocal students at The University of Iowa experience a rich and varied curriculum that develops the highest levels of artistry and musicianship. World-class faculties guide each singer's development and prepare them for professional life. In addition to one-on-one lessons with voice faculty, students perform in weekly and monthly classes and seminars, and have the opportunity to perform in a range of vocal ensembles, as well as large opera productions several times each year. The Master of Fine Arts is a degree for students of superior ability in performance, requiring a minimum of 60 post-baccalaureate semester hours in which the thesis is minimally two full-length solo recitals. A Master of Arts degree may be earned while the student is working toward the Master of Fine Arts degree, but the student must meet all requirements for each degree separately, including two final examinations and three thesis recitals with a minimum combined total of 60 semester hours of graduate credit.
