Arts Management (MPhil)

An MPhil/PhD is an advanced postgraduate research degree that requires original research and the submission of a substantial dissertation of 60,000 to 100,000 words. At Birkbeck, students are initially registered on an MPhil and students will upgrade to a PhD after satisfactory progress in the first year or two. Students need to find a suitable academic supervisor at Birkbeck, who can offer the requisite expertise to guide and support them through their research. The Department of Film, Media and Cultural Studies has an international reputation for teaching and research. Birkbeck offers practice-based research options as well as traditional MPhil/PhD study. Current students explore a broad range of interests, including art and urban regeneration, socially engaged art practice, institutional critique, curatorial practice, cultural and creative industries, and interdisciplinary topics such as new media and geography.
