Land is the bedrock of any development and investment, all over the world. It includes both the air space, water space, the land surface and all that are buried underneath. Therefore, anything that is done on land must have the influence and impact of the Estate Management professionals (Estate Surveyors and Valuers). The Department of Estate Management was established in 2002 alongside other Departments that came up at the inception of the University while the postgraduate programmes started in 2003. Therefore, the objectives of the postgraduate programmes in the Department are to: i. Develop the spirit of enquiry in postgraduate students through training and research in an atmosphere of intellectual independence and individual creativity combined with strong sense of team work. ii. Provide training in research for those whose future careers lie in teaching and research at University level and for those who may have to operate in research and development situations in the private sector. iii. Equip students with cutting-edge and up-to-date analytical techniques in tackling complex economic, political and administrative questions on land use, development and management as well as other issues facing contemporary Nigerian built environment. iv. Introduce students to new dimensions of self reliance through two University wide courses, namely, Entrepreneurial Development Studies (EDS) and Total Man Concept (TMC). These would make the graduates job creators rather than job seekers and leaders fit spiritually, mentally balanced, emotionally stable and physically sound. v. Produce graduates who are well suited for employment in the modern world through explicit emphasis on the interactions of the private and public sectors.
