The Department is a family made up of very distinguished scholars and upcoming academics. We also have a set of very innovative, creative and enterprising students who are eager to learn. Our dynamic curriculum supports their aspirations; thus, our vision is to nurture and produce graduates capable of achieving self-development and contributing to national growth and development through creative, innovative and professional use of the mass media.
In our training agenda, we are mindful of raising students who will help drive the nation’s vision, and the UN-supported Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). So, our capacity-building programmes and course contents are structured in a way that these development platforms are embedded within the framework of the University’s strategic goals and vision per session. Furthermore, as a leadership based and driven University with a departure philosophy, we strive to raise communication experts with diverse competencies and potentials for leadership positions in the industry and other sister industries. This is the major reason we run a practical-oriented training platform. To date, our students package and produce a world-class Newspaper, Stream Newspaper and a world-class magazine, Stream Magazine. These publication outlets have remained self-sustaining with a solid advertiser base. We are also proud to note that students have entirely carried out the packaging and production with very minimal supervision. Our broadcast-oriented students also have their unique platforms with the Department’s state-of-the-art mini-studio for their broadcast training and production. Our Radio Station- HEBRON FM is also another platform for rounded training for our students, which also provides the opportunity for our students to demonstrate their mastery in broadcast presentation and programming. The Department is at the cutting edge of professionalism, having been fully accredited by professional organisations such as Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) and Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR). A number of faculty, staff and students of the Department are already members of these institutions. The Department is a powerful nexus made up of world-class scholars and academics, that are innovative, creative and quantitative in terms of teaching, research and community outreach activities. As part of our efforts to train students to become expert thinkers and managers in a globalised society, our course contents and programmes are aimed at student acquiring skills and knowledge that will aid their competence and leadership potential in media industries and other fields. Already, the graduates of Mass Communication from Covenant University are taking leadership positions in media, entertainment, academic and other industries.
