Mass Communication started as a programme in the Department of Languages and Mass Communication at the inception of the University in October, 2002. An autonomous Department of Mass Communication was created in September 2004 and it has since then made steady progress. The Department also has more than 80% of her academic staff with a Ph.D and the remaining staff members have all reached advanced stages in their doctoral studies. Admission Requirements

Master of Philosophy/Doctor of Philosophy (M. Phil/ Ph.D.) Admission to the M.Phil/Ph.D Degree is open to candidates who hold a minimum of 3.5 CGPA a 5-point scale at Master of Science/Arts Degree in appropriate discipline from this or other recognized university. In addition to admission requirements for all the programmes, Credit level passes in five subjects in the SSCE/GCE/NECO O/L or their equivalent must be obtained by applicants in not more than two sittings and must include English Language and Mathematics. The candidate must also fulfill all other Admission Requirements as prescribed by the Senate of Covenant University.
