Develop your scientific skills and explore specialisms wherever you are with our Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) accredited Masters. As a working biomedical scientist, this postgraduate degree will take you on the next step towards Chartered Scientist status.

As well as being accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science, our part-time MSc Biomedical Science degree is guided by an employers’ panel that includes the NHS.

Offered by distance learning and designed to fit in with your working life, this course is a great asset to your professional development.

You’ll have the opportunity to tailor your studies by choosing a specialist pathology area. Through this you can either enhance your knowledge and understanding of your current field or open up a new career path in a different specialism or an area such as management.

From the start of this three-year part-time Masters in Biomedical Science you’ll be supported by our tutors. The tutors include ARU lecturers and Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)-registered hospital practitioners: Senior Biomedical and Clinical Scientists.

You'll develop the knowledge and skills which are essential to your success in the MSc and to practicing the assessment methods (construction of portfolios of evidence and a dissertation) used during the course. There are no examinations.

As a postgraduate student at ARU you’ll be taught through our learning management system (Canvas), where you can read and download learning activities and upload your work for assessment.

A number of activities will be carried out in your workplace and are aimed at evidence-gathering as well as improving employability skills appropriate to your work environment.

Self-evaluation is an important part of your learning throughout this course and for all modules (except the Masters Project) you’ll produce a critical reflective commentary justifying your approach.

You’ll be able to demonstrate the required depth and systematic understanding of knowledge in applied areas and across areas, and the ability to work with theoretical and research-based knowledge at the forefront of your academic discipline.
