The MSNS program is designed for middle and high school science teachers and stresses the content and processes of the natural sciences as well as the integration of computers and other technologies into the classroom. The program is a cooperative effort between the biology, chemistry, geology/geography, and physics departments. In-service teachers take a number of core courses together which provides an opportunity for interaction between disciplines while completing course work in a biological sciences or physical sciences concentration. It may be earned through the successful completion of course work offered through concentrations in the following disciplines: biological sciences and physical sciences. Students should contact the concentration coordinator in the discipline area of interest for additional program guidance. The purpose of this program of graduate study is to offer experiences designed to advance the professional and personal competencies and scholarship of science teachers. This degree provides advanced study in the biological and physical sciences and education theory. If student elects to submit a thesis, the minimum credit required for graduation is 30 semester hours to include the 9 semester hours of the required scientific core, 15 semester hours in an area of concentration, and 6 semester hours of thesis and research to be determined by the candidate in consultation with the advisor.
