This program is designed to provide each student with a strong, broad background for a B.S. in geology, yet is sufficiently flexible to allow students freedom to follow their own interests. Many geologists are employed by industries related to oil and gas, mining and minerals, environmental and water resources. Others are self-employed as geological consultants, Licensed Professional Geologist, or work for environmental engineering and consulting firms. Also, many work for the federal or state government in organizations such as the: U.S. Geological Survey, Department of Energy, Forest Service and Army Corps of Engineers; National Aeronautics and Space Administration; National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; or state geological surveys.

Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. Other English language requirements: A score of 500 in paper based of the TOEFL examination; A minimum score of at least 69 on the English Proficiency Test administered by the English Language Institute of the University of Michigan (MELAB).
