The music performance degree is designed to provide students the opportunity to develop all necessary skills for success in the music profession or to pursue advanced degrees in music performance. In addition to academic preparation in music, performance majors receive significant one-on-one training in applied study on their primary instrument and are provided a wide variety of excellent solo and ensemble performance opportunities. The department of music is dedicated to helping students achieve their musical and educational goals. An innovative curriculum, exceptional facilities, and dedicated faculty combine to produce outstanding teachers and performers throughout the United States and abroad. In order to graduate with an option in performance, students must earn a ?C? or better in all music courses except those that are taken as electives. A course may be repeated once to meet this requirement. Students who want to major in music composition at Eastern should enroll in the music performance option with a composition concentration. Composition students receive one-on-one instruction in composition and on their primary instrument. Composition recitals featuring student work are given in lieu of performance recitals on an instrument. In addition, composers' forum concerts each semester showcase the work of all student composers regardless of their major. Any compositional style is acceptable.

Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. Other English language requirements: A score of 500 in paper based of the TOEFL examination; A minimum score of at least 69 on the English Proficiency Test administered by the English Language Institute of the University of Michigan (MELAB).
