This program is designed to graduate entry-level professional physical educators who possess a personal and professional commitment to physical education, and will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to promote learning in the area of physical education. In this program, students receive a standards-based curriculum in the areas of effective teaching (pedagogy), assessment, technique and theory courses, curriculum development, organization and administration, and in-school field experiences. The curriculum instills the importance and value of quality physical education programs for schools, communities, and society. This program is nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and one of the top programs for physical education majors in the state of Illinois.

Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. Other English language requirements: A score of 500 in paper based of the TOEFL examination; A minimum score of at least 69 on the English Proficiency Test administered by the English Language Institute of the University of Michigan (MELAB).
