Mathematical Sciences is the abstract discipline of numbers, quantity, and space. Mathematics may be studied in its own right, or as applied to other disciplines; such as physics and engineering. Students will learn: Advanced training in research; Essential skills in scholarly writing; A comprehensive understanding of mathematical structures and applications; Hands on learning in the design and solution of mathematical problems. The Lakehead University Math Assistance Centre (LUMAC) provides free tutoring services for students enrolled in math courses, particularly first and second year courses. The program requirements are the same as for the HBA (Mathematics Major) program; however, in order to remain in the program, students must maintain at least an overall 60% average in the major.
