Physics is the study of how matter and energy interact in our everyday lives. Students will learn topics such as: Mechanics and Gravitation; Lasers and Optics; Electricity and Magnetism; Quantum Mechanics; Solid State Physics; Medical Physics. The program fulfills a broad, comprehensive understanding of the basic laws of Nature. Lakehead University is a partner of NSERC Create Program in Medical Imaging Detector Technologies along with the University of Waterloo and the University of Saskatchewan. The NSERC Create Program in Medical Imaging Detector Technologies is a collaborative training program designed to consolidate medical imaging-related science and engineering research, including commercial and translational aspects of technology development. The program requirements are the same as for the HBSc (Physics) with Major Concentration in Biomedical Physics program, except that students shall not take the honours thesis (Physics 4501) and in order to remain in the program, students must maintain at least an overall C average in the major and in the major concentration. All course choices in the fourth year must be approved by the department Chairs.
