The Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Defence Technology at the Subharti Institute of Technology and Engineering (SITE) is a prestigious 2-year postgraduate program launched in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and AICTE. This program is designed to fulfill the vision of "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" by producing skilled engineers for the national defence ecosystem.
1. Program Highlights (2026 Session)
Duration: 2 Years (4 Semesters).
Eligibility: B. E. / B. Tech in any branch of Engineering (Mechanical, ECE, CSE, etc. ) or Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering with at least 50% marks.
Admission: Through SNET (Subharti National Entrance Test) or merit based on GATE scores.
Annual Fees: Approximately ₹1.30 Lakhs per year (Total program fee around ₹2.60 Lakhs ).
Note: Meritorious scholarships and 100% tuition fee waivers for children of martyrs are available.
2. Specializations (DRDO-AICTE Framework)
In alignment with the national curriculum, the program offers six specialized streams. While all students share a common 1st semester, they branch into these areas from the 2nd semester:
Combat Vehicle Engineering: Design and development of tanks, armored vehicles, and land systems.
Aerospace Technology: Focusing on missiles, aircraft, and UAV (Drones) technology.
Naval Technology: Underwater systems, marine engineering, and naval architecture.
Communication Systems & Sensors: Radar, electronic warfare, and secure military communication.
Directed Energy Technology: Study of high-power microwaves and laser-based weapon systems.
High Energy Materials Technology: Explosives, propellants, and advanced material science for defense.
3. Unique Collaboration & Research
What sets this program apart is the direct involvement of the defense establishment:
MoU with IDST: Subharti has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute of Defence Scientists & Technologists (IDST), allowing retired and serving DRDO scientists to mentor students.
Thesis at DRDO Labs: Students carry out their 3rd and 4th-semester dissertation/project work directly in DRDO Labs, Defence PSUs (like HAL, BEL), or Private Defence Industries.
Campus Facilities: Access to a DST-recognized ISRO center and the AICTE IDEA Lab for prototyping defense-related innovations.
4. Career & Future Prospects
Graduates are groomed for the rapidly expanding Indian defense sector, which is increasingly opening to private players.
Top Job Roles: Defence Scientist (via DRDO Entry), Research Engineer, Systems Architect, Production Manager in Defence PSUs, and Technical Consultant.
Top Recruiters: DRDO, HAL, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), L&T Defence, and Tata Advanced Systems.
Salary Expectations: Postgraduates typically start between ₹6L to ₹12 LPA. Scientist-level entries in government organizations follow official pay scales (Level 10 and above).
5. Why M.Tech Defence Tech at Subharti?
National Security Impact: The curriculum is directly aligned with the current needs of the Indian Armed Forces.
Mentorship: Learning from scientists who have spent decades in defense R&D.
Scholarships: 5% scholarship for first relatives of Indian Defence Services personnel and up to 100% for children of martyrs.
