The B.Sc. RIT is a 3.5-year undergraduate program (3 years of academics + 6 months of mandatory internship) designed to train students in the physics and operation of modern medical imaging equipment. The course is offered by the Department of Paramedical Sciences and approved by the relevant state medical faculty.
Course Overview:
Focus: Students learn the scientific principles of radiation, patient positioning, radiographic anatomy, and the technical skills required to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
Radiation Safety: A critical part of the curriculum involves radiation protection protocols (ALARA principle) to ensure safety for both patients and staff.
Training Infrastructure:
Advanced Equipment: Students receive hands-on training on some of the most sophisticated machines in Northern India, including a 1.5 Tesla MRI, 128-slice Spiral CT Scanner, and Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) unit.
Specialized Modalities: The training extends beyond basic X-rays to include Digital Mammography, Color Doppler Ultrasound (3D/4D), and Bone Densitometry (DEXA) .
Dark Room & Processing: While modern radiology is digital, students also learn the fundamentals of image processing and Computed Radiography (CR/DR) systems.
Clinical Internship:
The final 6 months are dedicated to a rotating internship within the Chhatrapati Shivaji Subharti Hospital. Students work in shifts alongside senior radiologists and technicians, managing real patient flow in the X-ray, CT, and MRI consoles.
Eligibility:
10+2 (Intermediate) with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Maths with at least 45% marks .
Lateral Entry: Candidates with a Diploma in X-Ray Technician can often apply for direct admission into the 2nd year (subject to university norms).
Career Scope:
Graduates are qualified to work as Radiologic Technologists, MRI/CT Technicians, or Application Specialists for medical equipment companies.
