The department aspires to academic and research excellence and the advancement of knowledge in history and civilization. However, the department has provided an environment in which theoretical teaching interacts with research activity in an atmosphere of intellectual freedom and in accordance with scientific standards by integrating learning with research in an integrated environment centered on enhancing the student's potential in research, dialogue and discovery. As well as the opening of a postgraduate department in the Division of Islamic History and Modern History.

1- Building a generation of character and morals, armed with faith and sound doctrine, by graduating cadres specialized in history and civilization, to work in education and various state institutions.
2- Establishing the original intellectual and human values in order to be a support for the student and to enhance the shortage of faculty members in universities in the field of history and civilization.
3- Introducing the Department of Graduate Studies in the people, which was opened by the Department, which is the Division of Islamic History and Modern History, to learn about historical, political, economic, social and cultural events, as well as the most important historical, military and archaeological sites in our dear country, Libya.
