The PhD is aimed at training researchers of the highest level who master an area of knowledge and delve into a particular topic empirically and conceptually in order to generate new knowledge and apply it to the solution of social problems in an innovative way. To apply in an original way the anthropological approach in research and generate new knowledge in the field of social anthropology. Specific objectives include: deepening in a particular topic empirically and conceptually, until reaching a recognized degree of expertise in that topic; applying in an original and novel way the theoretical approaches and concepts of anthropology in field research; posing suggestive research questions that generate new knowledge in social anthropology, both in its ethnographic and explanatory aspects; conducting original anthropological research; AND applying their knowledge to develop innovative knowledge and methodologies for the solution of social problems.

 To be admitted into a graduate program, students must pass the Exam III (CENEVAL), which is an exam in Spanish required for admission. The exam may be taken at the IBERO or at CENEVAL centers throughout Mexico.

 International students who do not live in Mexico may take the exam after their arrival at the university on the first date the exam is offered at the university.
