The Master of Health Law (MHL) is a flexible, specialist qualification covering wide-ranging legal and ethical issues in healthcare. You will learn to identify, analyse and develop solutions to complex legal, ethical and policy issues affecting health and health services. Our students come from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds. They include practising lawyers, health professionals, health administrators, government officers, health advocates and others seeking a deeper understanding of legal and regulatory issues arising within the health sector. Health law concerns the legal issues arising from the provision of health care services, the impact of new technologies on health care, the regulation of the health professions, and public health. The Master of Health Law is designed for lawyers or non-lawyers who wish to upgrade their qualifications for the purposes of career advancement or professional and academic interest.

Admission to candidature for the Master of Health Law requires: a bachelor's degree with a credit average (65 percent) from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification.; or a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification; and the applicant provides evidence of two years of relevant professional experience. Students who do not hold a law degree or equivalent from a common law jurisdiction must either have completed or be concurrently enrolled in LAWS6252 Legal Reasoning and the Common Law System prior to undertaking other law units of study.
