Drexel University's PhD in Clinical Psychology trains clinical psychologists in the scientist-practitioner model. This model places roughly equal emphasis on clinical research and the application of scientific principles, with an emphasis on the integration of psychological science and practice. Students receive an appropriate, broad education in preparation for entry-level practice in professional psychology. This education includes training in intervention and assessment, as well as an introduction to the science and practice of clinical psychology. The program is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). Clinical Health Psychology adopts a broad-based, bio psychosocial perspective in order to: (1) better understand the interplay among behavioral, emotional, cognitive, social and biological factors regarding health, wellness and physical disease; (2) promote and maintain wellness and positive physical health; (3) prevent, treat, and rehabilitate illness and disability, and (4) improve the health care delivery system. Concentrating in health psychology provides specialty training to prepare graduate students for academic and/or clinical positions where the primary focus is on physical health problems. In addition to the core curriculum, the program includes: One health psychology practicum A health psychology-focused thesis and dissertation Required courses: Health Psychology, Behavioral Stress Management and Evidence Based Assessment and Treatment At least 2 clinical health psychology electives selected from the following: Advanced Topics in Health Psychology, Psychology of Rehabilitation, Eating and Its Disorders and Advance Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
