The Master of Science in Mathematics includes core courses in Linear Algebra and Matrix Analysis; Principles of Analysis I, II; Real Analysis I; Complex Analysis I; and Abstract Algebra I. In the second year, students may take advanced coursework in areas such as Ordinary Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Numerical Analysis, Applied Probability and Statistics, or Mathematical Neuroscience. Master's students are encouraged to attend and participate in the department's vibrant seminar and colloquium series, as well as in the SIAM (Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics) student chapter. There is no thesis, language, or special examination requirements for the master's degree. Financial support from the mathematics department is not available for master's candidates.

Although admission requirements vary by program, regular acceptance typically requires a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (B) for the last two years of undergraduate work. The average for any graduate work must be at least 3.0.
