The Master of Family Therapy Program prepares couple and family therapy practitioners for clinical practice and is designed to meet the educational requirements for license eligibility in the state of Pennsylvania. The program prepares students for the profession of couple and family therapy through academic and clinical training. It exposes students to broad areas of theory and practice and provides an intensive, supervised clinical experience. The program emphasizes the interdependence of individual experience and the relational context, extending from family of origin (including traditional and nontraditional families) to the global community. The program is committed to training students to be aware of and sensitive to cultural diversity. In addition, the person of the therapist, including the student’s own culture, is a major aspect of the clinical training. Drexel’s Master of Family Therapy program trains students to become highly skilled, systemic thinking, culturally competent clinicians that are desirable in a myriad of work environments. Our experienced faculty accomplishes this by exposing students to an array of classical, postmodern, and evidence-based approaches in family therapy and considers the relevance of culture and Person of the Therapists in clinical practice. This distinctive program emphasizes the application of a systems/relational context to the assessment and treatment of individuals, couples, families and/or groups. Particular attention is given to collaborative work with larger systems. Students are encouraged to use theory and clinical philosophy to develop their own personalized therapeutic approach. Supervised clinical practicum is completed at Community Practicum sites and at the Drexel University Individual Couple and Family Therapy Clinical Practices. The program is committed to training therapists to be aware of and sensitive to cultural diversity, including the student's own culture.
