JD-Master of Science in Library and Information Science

Our joint JD-Master of Science in Library and Information Science Program is ideal for students who wish to apply a thorough knowledge of law to pursue careers in academic, private or government law libraries. Students take courses at the law school and Drexel's College of Computing and Informatics, earning degrees from both. In addition to acquiring basic skills in the two disciplines, students gain a unique perspective on legal research and its application in legal practice. Students take their first year of study at the law school where they complete the standard first-year curriculum. They spend the second year completing a combination of law school courses and core library science courses at the College of Computing and Informatics. During the third year, they take required and elective courses at both schools. Depending on the pace of coursework they select, students finish the two degrees in three to four years. Both degrees are awarded simultaneously. Faculty at both schools excels at research and teaching. The law school faculty includes nationally recognized experts in varied fields of legal practice and legal research. The College of Computing and Informatics, one of only 63 schools accredited by the American Library Association, is home to over 50 faculty members that represent nearly every perspective in the information field.
