Master’s Degree in Economics (060404)

The master’s degree program in economics is designed in accordance with the national higher education standards of the Republic of Azerbaijan and aims to provide advanced academic knowledge, analytical skills, and professional competencies in the field of economics. The program prepares graduates for research-oriented, analytical, managerial, pedagogical, and policy-related careers in both public and private sectors at national and international levels.

The program has a duration of two academic years (120 ECTS credits) and offers a broad range of specializations, including but not limited to economic theory, econometrics, economic regulation, macroeconomic policy, economic modeling, labor economics, environmental economics, tourism economics, agrarian economics, valuation, and economic cybernetics.

Program Objectives

The primary objective of the program is to develop highly qualified economists who are capable of:

- Applying advanced theoretical and methodological approaches to economic analysis;

- Conducting independent and collaborative scientific research;

- Analyzing and regulating complex socio-economic processes at micro-, meso-, and macro-levels;

- Designing, implementing, and evaluating economic policies, programs, and development projects;

- Using modern quantitative, econometric, and information technologies in decision-making;

- Teaching economics-related disciplines in higher education institutions.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of modern economic theories, methodologies, and research paradigms;

- Analyze national and global economic processes, including issues related to economic growth, stability, sustainability, and innovation;

- Develop and apply economic and mathematical models for forecasting, planning, and policy evaluation;

Structure of the Program

The curriculum consists of:

- Core and specialization courses covering advanced economic theory, research methods, regulation mechanisms, valuation, and environmental and social economics;

- Research and innovation modules, focusing on academic writing, data analysis, and applied research skills;

- Scientific research and pedagogical internships, providing practical experience;

- Master’s thesis preparation and defense, demonstrating independent research competence.

Teaching and Assessment Methods

The teaching process employs a combination of lectures, seminars, case studies, interactive learning, independent research, and practical training. Student performance is assessed through examinations, coursework, research projects, presentations, and the final defense of the master’s thesis, in accordance with national assessment regulations.

Final Qualification

Graduates who successfully complete all program requirements and defend their master’s thesis are awarded the master’s degree in economics and receive a state-recognized diploma.
