Public Health

The Public Health program at Nakhchivan State University (NDU) is designed to provide students with a robust education in the principles, practices, and policies that impact the health of communities, populations, and societies at large. This interdisciplinary program draws upon a wide range of fields, including medicine, social sciences, environmental science, and public policy, to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address contemporary health challenges effectively. It aims to produce graduates who are capable of contributing to the design, implementation, and evaluation of health programs, policies, and initiatives aimed at improving public health and reducing health disparities.

Program Objective :
The primary objective of the Public Health program at NDU is to prepare students for leadership roles in public health, where they can influence health policies, promote healthier behaviors, and help prevent and control diseases. The program focuses on equipping students with a broad understanding of the factors that affect population health, such as social determinants, environmental risks, healthcare systems, and global health challenges. Graduates will gain a comprehensive understanding of how to develop, implement, and assess public health interventions that can improve quality of life and reduce health inequities.

Program Structure :
The Public Health program at NDU is a 6-year undergraduate program, offering a combination of theoretical learning and practical training. The curriculum covers key areas of public health, providing students with a solid foundation in the biological, social, and environmental determinants of health. Students will be trained in epidemiology, biostatistics, health systems, health promotion, and public health management. Key Areas of Study :

1. Epidemiology
   Epidemiology is a cornerstone of public health, and this program offers students a deep understanding of how diseases spread and how health outcomes are influenced by various factors. Students will learn how to conduct epidemiological studies, analyze patterns of disease distribution, and apply findings to public health interventions. Topics covered include infectious diseases, chronic diseases, maternal and child health, and epidemiological methods for data collection and analysis. Students will be prepared to work in research, healthcare institutions, and health organizations to assess the health status of populations and develop strategies for disease prevention and control.
2. Biostatistics
   Biostatistics is an essential skill for public health professionals, as it enables them to analyze data, interpret health trends, and make informed decisions. The Public Health program at NDU includes courses in biostatistics, teaching students how to apply statistical methods to health data. 5. Social Determinants of Health
   The social conditions in which people live, work, and play profoundly influence their health. 6. Global Health
   In an increasingly interconnected world, global health issues, such as pandemics, health inequalities, and the movement of populations, require urgent attention. The Public Health program at NDU offers courses on global health, enabling students to understand the health challenges faced by populations around the world.
