At the beginning of its establishment, the department which offers PhD in Electrophysics cooperated with the rapid development of electronic science at that time, focusing on the research of semiconductor physics, components and applied optics, so the name of the department was electronic physics; at that time, it was the only electronic physics department in the country. Laser applications and other fields show the most innovative and forward-looking teaching and research in China, and have established the school's dominant position in the domestic semiconductor and optoelectronic fields. So far, the department has 21 alumni, who have won the honor of outstanding alumni of Jiaotong University; in addition, whether it is a famous university in the United States or Taiwan, an important research institution, or a semiconductor optoelectronic information company, there are people in the electronics industry, and they often play the role of mainstay role.
