The School of Advanced Energy at Sun Yat-sen University, established in 2021 and located on the Shenzhen campus, is a new engineering school built by Sun Yat-sen University to meet the major needs of global scientific and technological development and national energy structure transformation. The school actively responds to the national strategies of "carbon peaking" and "carbon neutrality" in energy development, fully leveraging the regional advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Shenzhen as a national hub for new energy industry development. The school is primarily responsible for developing the first-level discipline of "Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics," focusing on three key areas: "New Energy Science and Engineering," "Energy Storage Science and Engineering," and "Energy Catalytic Conversion and Application." This forms a disciplinary system characterized by "New Energy Science and Engineering" and "Energy Storage Science and Engineering," supported by "Energy Catalytic Conversion and Application," and integrating interdisciplinary fields such as materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science. The school has established hydrogen energy, energy storage, solar energy, smart grids, and carbon dioxide utilization and conversion as its main research directions, creating a disciplinary development system adapted to the needs of advanced energy technology, industrial development, and the cultivation of high-level talent.

The college actively builds a high-quality faculty team led by academicians and other national-level high-end talents, and constructs a discipline development system, talent training system, scientific research system and industry-university-research cooperation system that are adapted to the needs of advanced energy development, so as to provide talent and scientific and technological support for the development of advanced energy technology and industry in the country, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Shenzhen.

The School of Advanced Energy at Sun Yat-sen University will adopt an application-assessment system for doctoral admissions in 2026, based on a comprehensive evaluation of applicants' qualities and abilities. Admission Requirements

Possesses a strong interest in academic research, has strong research capabilities, and meets at least one of the following English proficiency requirements:
1. Has published professional academic papers in English;
2. A score of ≥568 on the College English Test Band 4 or ≥426 on the College English Test Band 6;
3. TOEFL iBT score ≥ 90 or IELTS score ≥ 6.0;
If any of the above conditions cannot be met, other materials proving one's English proficiency must be submitted. The materials will be reviewed by the college's material review expert group, and the interview assessment expert group will focus on assessing one's English proficiency to determine whether it meets the requirements. The results will then be submitted to the college's postgraduate admissions leadership group for review.
