As an institution with independent authority to grant doctoral degrees, our university added six new first-level doctoral degree programs in 2023. Among them, the first-level doctoral degree program in Plant Protection, jointly applied for by our college with the College of Life Sciences and the College of Ecology, was included in the list of newly added programs. The addition of the Plant Protection first-level doctoral program is of great significance for advancing the development of our university's Plant Protection discipline and improving the quality of talent cultivation. It also helps our university better serve national needs and the economic and social development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
According to the development plan, our university's Plant Protection first-level doctoral program will have three second-level research directions: Plant Pathology, Entomology, and New Technologies for Plant Protection. It will focus on conducting high-level scientific research and cultivating high-quality talent in areas such as plant-disease-pest interactions, biological control technologies, smart plant protection, and synthetic biology.
As the main unit responsible for the construction of the doctoral program in Plant Protection at our university, our college will join forces with the relevant disciplines of the School of Life Sciences and the School of Ecology, keep in mind the mission of cultivating morality and talent, adhere to the principle of educating people for the Party and the country, and continue to exert efforts in attracting and cultivating high-level talents, applying for major and key projects, and building high-level scientific research platforms. In this way, we will promote the high-quality and connotative development of Plant Protection, and strive to make our university's Plant Protection discipline among the top in the country within ten years, so as to make greater contributions to serving national needs and the economic and social development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
