The School of Microelectronics Science and Technology, established in 2019 and located on the Zhuhai Campus of Sun Yat-sen University, is an innovative initiative by the university to strengthen and develop its microelectronics discipline. It is dedicated to the research of high-performance chips with independent intellectual property rights, which are urgently needed by the nation. The school focuses on developing the first-level disciplines of "Electronic Science and Technology" and "Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering," as well as the professional degree program in "Integrated Circuit Engineering." Specific research directions include intelligent computing chips and systems, intelligent sensing devices and integration, 6G intelligent chips, mixed-signal chips, micro-nano optoelectronic devices and integration, and integrated circuit design automation and systems, providing strong support for the Zhuhai Campus's deep-sea, deep-aerospace strategies. The school has now established a complete undergraduate-master's-doctoral integrated training system.

The college aims to cultivate "national strategic talents" and "national elites," namely, research-oriented and engineering-oriented senior technical talents who are familiar with the basic theories, principles, skills and applications of electronic circuits and computers, master the basic theories of semiconductors, the principles, design and manufacturing technologies of microelectronic devices and integrated circuits, possess relevant interdisciplinary knowledge, have a pioneering and innovative spirit, and are adaptable to the development of socialist modernization with an international perspective.

The School of Microelectronics Science and Technology at Sun Yat-sen University will adopt an application-assessment system for doctoral admissions in 2026, based on a comprehensive evaluation of applicants' qualities and abilities. Applicants must register and submit application materials in accordance with the 2026 Doctoral Admissions Brochure of Sun Yat-sen University and the relevant requirements of the School of Microelectronics Science and Technology.
