The School of Chemical Engineering and Technology at Sun Yat-sen University was established in 2015 on the Zhuhai campus, based on the former Department of Chemical Engineering within the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. The school's predecessor was the Department of Chemistry, founded in 1924, boasting a nearly century-long history and excellent academic tradition. Closely aligned with the university's strategic plan to vigorously develop engineering and build a large marine science cluster, the school adheres to a development path of "high positioning, high standards, and strong characteristics," striving to achieve the goal of becoming a "first-class domestic and internationally renowned chemical engineering school." Facing the "Maritime Power" strategy and serving the national and regional economic development and the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" construction's demand for high-level chemical engineering talent, the school aims to create a world-class chemical engineering discipline. Based on the two sub-disciplines of "Chemical Engineering" and "Industrial Catalysis," it focuses on five key research areas: "Resource and Environmental Chemical Engineering," "Materials Chemical Engineering," "Petroleum and Fine Chemical Engineering," "Marine Chemical Engineering," and "Energy Chemical Engineering," establishing a disciplinary development system with marine chemical engineering as its distinctive feature.
