The Geography (Urban and Regional Planning) program at Sun Yat-sen University is a distinctive interdisciplinary field that combines geography and planning. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, this program fully leverages the traditional strengths of Sun Yat-sen University's geographical research, closely follows the academic frontiers of geography and urban and regional planning, and addresses the major needs of national strategies and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Adhering to the principles of "strengthening the foundation, emphasizing innovation, and aligning with international standards," the program cultivates high-level professionals with a solid theoretical foundation in urban and regional planning, proficient in urban and regional planning research methods, knowledge of the current state and cutting-edge developments in the discipline, an international perspective and communication skills, and the ability to integrate theory with practice and independently conduct research and application work in urban and regional planning.
Currently, this major has 36 full-time faculty members, including 12 professors, 21 associate professors or senior lecturers, 4 national-level outstanding young talents, 10 national registered urban planners, and 1 first-class registered architect.
