The Occupational and Environmental Medicine Unit of the "Alberto Hurtado" School of Medicine and the Víctor Alzamora Castro Graduate School (EPGVAC), of the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) has developed since 2012 the Master's Degree in Occupational Medicine and the Environment, as a Master of Specialization; which responds to the national and international need for a greater number of health professionals, specifically doctors, with the necessary skills to care for workers from the point of view of comprehensive health and safety, for this reason, this time it offers the program in the Distance or Non-Presential Modality in order to provide a greater opportunity to be trained in this important field, for which it will make use of the advances in training technologies.
The Occupational and Environmental Medicine Unit has as objectives; develop academic training programs at the postgraduate level, in the disciplines associated with the health area in Occupational Medicine and the Environment, as well as develop lines of research in the fields of Occupational Medicine and the Environment and health at work. The Master's Degree in Occupational and Environmental Medicine is presented as a timely, viable option with a positive impact on national development within the framework of this topic.
Considering mainly the changes that have arisen in Peru and Latin America in the last three years, associated with the issue of safety and health at work and the 2020 pandemic, a new scheme of the aforementioned master's degree is proposed, based on the skills required by to Physician. Occupational, the needs of the labor market according to the types of industrial sectors present and other technical criteria that allow the graduate to face these needs without affecting the regulatory or organizational variability that may occur in the future.
In the revised curriculum of the Master's Degree in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, there is progressive certification that includes the Diploma in Occupational Medicine and Assessment of Bodily Injury in the Workplace, which will allow students of the Master's Degree in Occupational Medicine and of the Environment to obtain an additional diploma. The Diploma is a program organized through the UPCH Faculty of Medicine whose purpose is to generate skills for occupational medical evaluation, diagnosis of occupational disease and assessment of bodily damage caused by exposure to occupational risk factors or by accident. of work that causes functional incapacity for work.
