In recent decades, Microbiology has gained great importance in the human task of scientific and therapeutic research. The advent of the gene bank, the application of bioinformatic tools in microbiology, the developments in immunology and its therapeutic tools, the knowledge of the transcendental role of the microbiota in maintaining health and even in human metabolism and of drugs applied to humans, and other modern advances, are showing that the knowledge and potential management of microbiology for research and therapeutics is an advanced task.

Additionally, the world population is affected by changes, not only climatic but also by problems of environmental pollution, production of quality food free of contaminants or extreme health problems such as the current COVID-19 pandemic that is affecting humanity, and has put many professionals to work looking for how to prevent and control this disease. Microbiology is a branch of Biological Sciences that allows knowing the biology of microorganisms, including viruses, knowing the mechanisms of pathogenic action, virulence factors and genetic changes that are mediating the interaction with man and the environment. This allows carrying out strategies for prevention and control of the disease. What the world applauds: The record time in which the preparation of different vaccine formats has been achieved has been basically due to the microbiological knowledge we had of viruses close to the current one. This is a sample of the current importance of microbiology.

The Master's Degree in Microbiology strategically addresses these concepts, providing training in which the student integrates theoretical knowledge with practice to answer different questions or problems, not only related to health but also to the environment or food production.
