Germany has always been at the heart of the European intellectual tradition and is now the driving force of its economy and the EU. German Studies at Warwick enables students to explore the extraordinary breadth and depth of German language and culture in collaboration with recognised experts in the field. Intensive language work from advanced level opens the richness of German language and cultural life. Combining German with Chinese is particularly useful as China becomes an increasingly important global player, economically and politically. Students will spend a quarter of their time throughout this course on Chinese. This language can be taken at beginner’s, post-GCSE or post-A Level (or equivalent) level maximum. Applicants with language ability above this level, including native speakers, would not be suitable for this course.
