Whether you are a recent graduate or trainee surgeon, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on surgical skills training from professionals at The Griffin Institute, a specialist centre for surgical training. The two surgical skills courses and the compulsory Research Methodologies & Transferable Skills module form the core of the programme.
You will choose from a selection of optional modules in applied surgical sciences, including Surgical Oncology, Applied Tissue Engineering, Virtual Reality in Healthcare, Transplantation Science and more. These modules are designed to support the development of your surgical speciality, enhance your knowledge or introduce you to novel topics that you may not otherwise experience. They are taught by leading academics and clinicians and are continuously updated to reflect developments in the field and keep pace with innovations in surgical and scientific research.
The major contribution to your degree is a cutting-edge research project of your choice. Wherever possible, we use a bespoke approach to match your speciality and career aspirations with either a laboratory or clinical research group, or a systematic review. The number of optional modules you take depends on your choice of research project.
