Our research programme offers a unique education and research experience to a small number of highly motivated students, with the intent of preparing them for scholarly careers at the highest level.
The programme typically consists of four or five years of full-time study, starting with one year of modules registered as MRes. Subject to successful performance in the MRes and positive assent by a departmental panel, students will move on to a 4 year research degree.
PhD students pursue their studies in one of the five research groups listed below:
Organisations and Innovations Research examines the social psychology of individuals, teams, social networks, and processes within organisations. Topics of interest include creativity, innovation, leadership, negotiations, personality, decision-making, cooperation and competition.
Strategy and Entrepreneurship Research is focused on understanding what makes firms successful and what leads to new business formation. Topics of interest include digitization, big data analytics, machine learning, information environment, platform ecosystems, new organisational forms, innovation, competition, entrepreneurship for development, and social innovation.
Operations and Technology Research focuses on understanding how companies actually do things for value creation and value capture. Topics of interest include R&D management, new product development, innovation management, service systems, supply chain economics and healthcare operations.
Marketing and Analytics Research investigates how firms generate value by understanding consumer behaviour. Topics of interest include branding, retailing, advertising, pricing, product development, marketing channels, business marketing, marketing strategy, and e-commerce.
Finance, Accounting and Economics is focused on how financial markets and intermediaries affects investment decisions and the allocation of resources in the economy. Topics of interest for faculty members include corporate finance, financial intermediation, banking regulation, and fintech. Please note this particular research group has an extended deadline of 28 February 2021.
