The PhD educational and scientific program “Trade” is a third-cycle research pathway aimed at developing high-level academic and professional expertise for innovation-driven, evidence-based transformation of the trade sector, with a focused commitment to product quality and safety. The program prepares researchers and university-level educators capable of generating new scientific ideas, conducting original fundamental and applied studies, and translating research outcomes into modern teaching, managerial practice, and policy-relevant recommendations within the rapidly evolving landscape of trade. Its academic core combines advanced methodological training with a strong orientation toward solving complex, real-world problems faced by trade organizations, supply chains, and market ecosystems, where uncertainty, technological change, consumer expectations, and regulatory requirements interact. The program’s subject area centers on the activity of business entities in trade, viewed through the lens of research and pedagogical practice, and builds doctoral-level competence in the theoretical and methodological foundations of trade development, ensuring that graduates can design robust research models and make substantiated decisions supported by high-quality data and scholarly argumentation. Doctoral candidates progressively master a comprehensive research toolkit, including general scientific and specialized methods, modern information and communication technologies, and analytical instruments for working with large or complex datasets, enabling them to test hypotheses, build conceptual and computational models, and critically evaluate trends and innovations shaping contemporary trade. The educational component includes philosophy of science, research methodology and organization, information technologies for research, higher education pedagogy, and specialized modules such as innovations in trade, academic language training, and a scientific seminar aligned with the dissertation topic, which together ensure both scholarly rigor and the ability to communicate results professionally in Ukrainian and foreign languages. This structured learning smoothly transitions into intensive research practice through the preparation of an original dissertation that addresses a concrete complex problem in trade or at its interdisciplinary boundaries, producing results with scientific novelty and practical relevance. The program emphasizes ethical, socially responsible decision-making, academic integrity, and leadership in research and teaching contexts, while also building capacity for project development and management, international academic cooperation, and effective dissemination of research through publications and conference engagement. Assessment reflects this dual nature: academic progress is evaluated through ongoing and final controls for educational components, while research performance is tracked via qualitative and quantitative indicators such as scientific outputs, conference participation, and staged dissertation milestones validated by кафедра and faculty academic bodies. Graduates are prepared for academic and research careers in universities and research institutions, as well as high-level analytical and managerial roles in trade-related organizations and public institutions, where a PhD qualification is required for strategic decision-making, innovation implementation, and expert evaluation. Supported by the university’s digital infrastructure, specialized software environments, research resources, and access to international scientometric databases, the program creates conditions for doctoral candidates to conduct competitive research, integrate into scholarly networks, and contribute to the modernization of trade through innovations that strengthen product quality, safety, and market efficiency.
