The Bachelor’s Educational and Professional Programme “Trade Management” is delivered by the State University of Trade and Economics through its separate structural unit, the Kharkiv Trade and Economics Professional College. It is a first-cycle higher education programme leading to the qualification “Bachelor of Management” within the field D “Business, Administration and Law” and the specialty D3 “Management”. The programme is aligned with the national higher education standard approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (Order No. 1165 of 29 October 2018) and corresponds to Level 6 of the National Qualifications Framework of Ukraine, Level 6 of the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning, and the first cycle of the Framework for Qualifications of the European Higher Education Area. The programme awards a single Bachelor’s diploma and comprises 240 ECTS credits, with a normative duration of 3 years and 10 months. It is accredited by the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance under Certificate No. 10374, valid until 25 February 2026. Instruction is provided in Ukrainian, with no restrictions regarding the mode of study, and the programme remains effective until the next scheduled revision.
The programme’s overarching goal is to educate professionals who possess both conceptual scientific foundations and practical, applied expertise in management, with a strong focus on the needs of trade and retail organisations operating in complex and uncertain market environments. In practice, this means developing graduates who can understand organisational systems, diagnose problems, design and implement managerial decisions, and lead teams in contexts shaped by competition, rapid digitalisation, and changing consumer behaviour. The academic content is built on leading national and international management schools and integrates contemporary approaches such as systemic, situational, adaptive, anticipatory, crisis, innovative, and project management. This theoretical backbone is consistently connected to real operational challenges in trade, including offline retail management, online marketplace operations, trade marketing, logistics, and category management.
The subject area of the programme is the management of organisations and their structural units. Students learn to describe organisational characteristics, analyse performance outcomes in relation to internal and external factors, and identify development prospects. Considerable attention is devoted to functional areas and the relationships between them, enabling future managers to see how marketing, operations, logistics, finance, human resources, and communications interlock inside a trade business. The programme also equips students with a modern methodological toolkit, including calculation and analytical methods, economic and statistical techniques, economic and mathematical modelling, expert assessment, sociological and documentary methods, and balance-based approaches. For decision-making, students explore technologies such as economic analysis, simulation modelling, and decision trees, while also mastering administrative, economic, socio-psychological, and technological methods of management.
Learning is organised through a balanced combination of classroom instruction and independent work, designed around problem-oriented and interactive approaches. Teaching methods include case studies, situational tasks, discussions, public speaking, essay writing, and project-based assignments, complemented by opportunities for distance learning. The educational process is student-centred and supported by a strong digital infrastructure, including a learning portal based on the Moodle learning management system and an automated institutional management platform that provides schedules, curricula, a student personal account with performance tracking, elective course registration, and academic services. Students and staff also use a corporate cloud environment based on Office 365, including advanced digital tools for analytics and business communication.
A distinctive feature of the programme is its dynamic, integrative, and interactive design. Students are encouraged to enrich formal learning with non-formal online courses for each discipline, strengthening flexibility and up-to-date competence development. In addition, the programme includes enhanced foreign-language training through professional communication courses in English, which supports employability and mobility. Another hallmark is the programme’s emphasis on adaptability to labour market transformation through systematic engagement with employers and other stakeholders. Practical training forms an essential pillar: students complete specialised practical modules focused on professional safety, cloud technologies and digital business communications, as well as industrial and pre-graduation practice placements. Professional competencies are further reinforced through training in a dedicated educational and production centre for modelling and business simulations, where students can practise managerial decision-making in realistic scenarios.
Assessment is conducted through examinations, pass-fail credits, presentations, and continuous evaluation methods such as tests, problem-solving exercises, case analysis, and class participation. The final attestation takes the form of a public defence of a qualification thesis. The thesis must address a complex specialised task or a practical problem in management under conditions of complexity and uncertainty, applying theories and methods of economic science. Academic integrity requirements are strict: the thesis must not contain plagiarism, falsification, or unauthorised copying, and it is published on the official website of the college.
Upon graduation, students are qualified for entry-level and junior specialist positions in trade and commercial activity in accordance with the National Classifier of Occupations of Ukraine, including commercial agent, trade agent, merchandiser, sales representative, trade inspector, supply and sales organiser, trade broker, and assistant manager in enterprises or organisational units. At the same time, the programme creates a clear pathway for further education, enabling graduates to continue at the second (Master’s) level of higher education and to obtain additional qualifications through postgraduate and professional development systems.
